Lawrence "China" Slaughter Reading Park

Liberty, Missouri

For 32 years, Lawrence ‘China’ Slaughter helped Franklin Elementary students across the street as a crossing guard, so it only seems right a new park across from the school should bear his name. When the owner donated the land for the park, Vireo worked with several community groups to create a vision for the park and to make it a reality. Honoring his 47 years of service to the district, meandering walkways, low seating walls, a full-size statue of him and other landscape elements create a relaxing place for children and adults alike to gather and read.
