Westport Stormwater and Streetscape Improvements

For decades, one of Kansas City’s most historic neighborhoods has been prone to catastrophic flooding, causing millions of dollars in property damage and lost business each time. The project’s primary goal is to improve the stormwater infrastructure needed to help to alleviate flooding issues caused by Westport’s age and vast amount of pavement, but the neighborhood is also getting an upgrade above ground at the same time.

Vireo’s role includes streetscape design, green infrastructure planting design and park design along with all renderings for the project team.

Above ground, residents and visitors will see streetscape improvements, including street trees, green infrastructure, and permeable pavement parking areas to help reduce stormwater flows. And on top of one of the underground storage facilities, a new park will take its place on the south end of Westport.
