Topeka Fast Track Bike Plan

Topeka, Kansas

The Topeka Fast-Track Bike Plan was created to supplement the existing bikeways master plan while responding to changes in bicycling trends, bicyclists’ unique preferences for infrastructure, and community feedback. The plan was grounded in the guiding principles of improving equity and access for all, promoting health and wellness, encouraging sustainability and economic development, and making Topeka a more livable community.

During the planning process, Vireo helped frame the approach to field work, conducted field analysis of targeted bikeway corridors and areas, developed alternative visualizations of potential improvement projects, and assisted with stakeholder and community engagement.

The finished plan is the first big step in visualizing, prioritizing and bringing to life $3.5 million of new on-and off-street bikeways, funded by a countywide sales tax voters approved.
