Boston Daniels Park
Kansas City, Kansas
Boston Daniels Park in Kansas City, Kansas was recently rededicated after a major redevelopment, and now stands as a cornerstone to a new a reinvigorated neighborhood after years of decline and blight. Boston Daniels was the city’s first black police chief and spent every day serving his community. He inspired others to do good and fought to make KCK a safe place to live.
The BDC held two rounds of public input sessions for the park improvements and coordinated the feedback with UG/KCK Parks and Recreation. Vireo then worked closely with the Boston Daniels Corporation (BDC) and the UG/KCK Parks and Recreation Department on a design and improvements that honored his legacy. Improvements now include a new shelter, playground, retaining wall repairs and sidewalk connections to the park.
City officials, community activists, neighbors and friends gathered in 2025 to rededicate the park on Quindaro Boulevard and celebrate the legacy of Boston Daniels and the life the new park bearing his name will bring to the neighborhood.
