Shelly Green

Ecological Planner

What initially drew you to what you do?

Honestly, it probably started when I was a kid making “mud pies” in the backyard and building elaborate miniature rivers after a rainstorm. I’ve always been fascinated by how people interact with the land, and that curiosity stuck with me.

Why do you do what you do?

Whether it’s cleaner water, more resilient landscapes, or spaces where people can connect with nature, I love knowing that my work creates lasting benefits for both the environment and the communities that depend on it.

As a tribal member who has worked on tribal reservations, I’ve seen firsthand how land, water, and culture are deeply intertwined. This perspective has strengthened my commitment to protecting natural resources in ways that honor both ecological integrity and community well-being.

I’m happiest when I’m outdoors—whether it’s camping under the stars, hiking a new trail, or just spending time in the garden. I love exploring the world with my dog, Lady, and enjoying live music whenever I can.

Outside of your work day, how do you like to spend your time?
