Lauritzen Gardens

Entry Walk and Plaza

Omaha, Nebraska

Lauritzen Gardens has undergone great change and growth in a relatively short period of time with the completion of the conservatory, Tiger Plaza, Japanese Garden and and Children’s Garden. Lauritzen continues to expand its horticultural mission, fostering a love of beauty, education, and conservation through botanical exploration.

The Entry Walk and Plaza project addressed aging amenities at the front door and refreshed the visitor experience. Elements of the entry experience were in need of significant repair, including the main pedestrian walkway and failing rain gardens in the parking lot, creating an obvious need for a new entry plaza.

The project required significant attention to unique subsurface conditions, as the site was previously a landfill, along with the addition of new pedestrian scale lighting, custom handrail, natural stone seatwalls, and specialty lotus flower pavement inlay. The result is a transformed entry that begins the experience of the Gardens before passing through the front gate.
