Serenity Garden
Ronald McDonald House
Kansas City, Missouri
The Serenity Garden at the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kansas City serves as the heart of a campus that serves sick children and their families, giving them a beautiful place to rest and to connect with nature.
The Charity and its donors worked closely with Vireo’s designers to envision a garden that brings hope, comfort, and renewal to families between treatments at nearby Children’s Mercy Hospital.
The metamorphic journey of the butterfly provided an inspiring narrative for the design of the garden, as families undergo a similarly transformative and emotional journey during their stay at Ronald McDonald Houses. The serenity garden responds sensitively to this journey with a series of spaces meant to express themes of courage, strength, family, and love through a rich variety of materials, furnishings, and landscape plantings.
