Camp Branch Park

Olathe, Kansas

Vireo led the planning and public engagement efforts to develop a master plan for Camp Branch Park, which covers 236 acres. Its unique natural features include Camp Branch Creek, open grasslands, a wetland, two small ponds, and a series of rock outcroppings tucked into the slopes of an Oak/Hickory woodland. Final plans included a nature-based playground, multi-purpose open space, picnic areas, a wetland boardwalk, paved trails, shelters, restrooms, and associated parking areas. A day camp facility was also proposed to serve a variety of environmental, historical, and cultural programs for school field trips, scout groups, and other special events. The proposed improvements to enhance the natural character of the park included soft trails through the woodlands, over 40 acres of prairie grass & wildflower restorations, and enhancements to the existing ponds & wetlands. Throughout the design process, Vireo facilitated stakeholder meetings, two public meetings, and two online surveys.
