Kansas City Metro Fair Housing Assessment

Leavenworth, Independence, Blue Springs, Kansas City, & Unified Government of Kansas City, Kansas

Cities have had an obligation through the Fair Housing Act since 1968 to be proactive in improving the access to and availability of affordable housing. As the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) partnered with five cities and Kansas City’s Regional Equity Network to develop the Metro’s Fair Housing Assessment, Vireo developed a robust community engagement strategy for the project. Through the results the process brought, MARC and the metro’s cities are now better able to address the lingering disparities in housing around the region and work to reverse the negative effects of segregation and poverty.
