Shawnee Mission School District Aquatics Center

The new state-of-art Aquatics Center, located in the heart of Lenexa’s City Center, is now home to the School District’s swimming program. Early involvement in design allowed Vireo to collaborate with the architect and engineers to create a beautiful streetscape around the Aquatic Center that connects to City Center and complements the architecture.
Landscape plantings include drought tolerant grasses, sedges and perennials to provide seasonal interest and continuity around the building. A rain garden at the northeast corner of the building not only receives stormwater runoff from roof, but is also designed to be a streetscape amenity, providing seating adjacent to the vibrant mix of plants.
